As Doctor T strolled into the room, she saw little Ms London with her head wrapped up with gauze. This was a healthy 6month old whom she saw few weeks back for well baby exam. Here she is....a victim of motor vehicle accident thrown out of the window in an head-on-collision. Her mom was riding in a friend's car and didn't have her car seat there. Mother sustained minor bruises, London's facial bones were cracked but she survived. She had to undergo reconstruction and was kept in the intensive unit for several weeks.

If only mom took few seconds to grab London's car seat just like she took extra time to put on her make up...if only! The damage is done and this poor child has to live the rest of her life not only with a reconstructed face but with many other potential breathing and psychological problems.

From birth till age 6, children should be secured in car seats. Rear facing for infants up to about age 1 then forward facing till age 6. All available belts in the carseat should be fastened AT ALL TIMES even if you are driving just around the corner...there could be a bad driver coming behind/in front of you. Older kids MUST wear seat belts ALWAYS. DO NOT HOLD YOUR INFANT IN YOUR ARMS IN THE FRONT SEAT. There are infant car seats and there are convertibles. Convertible car seats can be used from birth (facing rear) and turned forward facing by age 1. They are used for longer years. You may prefer to buy infant car seats as well because they mostly have carrying handles and detachable base. You may buy whichever one you desire.
